Risk, rebalancing, and resilience in global value chains

Supply chain shocks—from natural disasters to cyberattacks, trade disputes, and now COVID-19—have become more frequent, more severe, and more costly. Research from McKinsey Global Institute explores the rebalancing act facing many global companies as they seek to get a handle on supply chain risks in a volatile world. MGI’s research assesses the exposure of 23 major industry value chains to a range of shocks, the financial cost of disruptions, the potential for production to move to new geographies, and strategies for building resilience.

Climate Risk and Response: Physical hazards and socioeconomic impacts

As average temperatures rise, acute hazards such as heat waves and floods grow in frequency and severity, and chronic hazards, such as drought and rising sea levels, intensify. McKinsey and the McKinsey Global Institute look at the nature and extent of physical risk from a changing climate over the next three decades.

Diversity Wins

The business case for gender equality, diversity and inclusion is strong and growing stronger. For over a decade now, McKinsey’s research has been shedding a light on diversity and inclusion and imagining the inclusive company of the future and the global economic implications of achieving parity. Reports such as Women in the Workplace, our Diversity Matters series and the Power of Parity all contribute to a better understanding of the benefits of having a more inclusive and diverse world.
